Indonesia is a big archipelago country with thousand of islands and hundred millions citizen, a lot of interesting places can be found in this country, I'm trying to give you some virtual tours to visiting several exotic places in Indonesia, lets we started with Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia.

Jakarta have big and large monuments in every side of the city, every monument has a special theme and unique shape, most of these beautiful statues and sculptures are made by bronze, lets we see the uniquely landmarks in Jakarta:

Monumen Nasional (National Monument)

  

Monumen Nasional or National Monument is located in the center of Jakarta, in the front of Presidential Palace and government office buildings area. This tower construction was started in Augusts 17, 1961 by President Soekarno and Soedarsono dan Silaban as the architect to representing the sprit of Indonesian freedom, symbolizing by the torch with flame on the top, this monument also symbolize the lingga (phallus) and yoni (vulva) to represent the fertility of Indonesia soil, or as rice pestle with the base, also to representing the fertility and prosperity of Indonesia, finished to built at July 12, 1975 in President Soeharto Era. The tower high is 137 meters (450 feet), the fire flame is made from 14.5 tons bronze and covered with 35 kilograms (1125 troy ounces) gold plate, the square plate base is 45 X 45 meters wide and 17 meters tall, and the National History room in the inside has 8 meters height.

Patung Selamat Datang (Welcome Statue)

  

This Patung Selamat Datang or Welcome Statue built heading to the North welcoming the athletes from foreign countries that participating in Asian Games IV 1962, located in the front of Hotel Indonesia building in the area that called Bundaran HI or Hotel Indonesia roundabout. This bronze sculpture was created by Edhi Sunarso, designed by Henk Ngantung, a former governor of Jakarta.

Patung Dirgantara (Dirgantara Monument)
Dirgantara = sky, atmosphere

  

This statue headed to the North with its hand pointed to former Kemayoran International Airport (now became a business central, exhibition and apartemens area), located near National Air Force Office in the South and Halim Perdana Kusuma Domestic Airport in the South East. Representing the power of Indonesian air force, symbolizing by a strong and brave man that flying and exploring the sky. President Soekarno want to showing to the world if Indonesia as a big archipelago country is protected by the strong air forces and serviced by solid air transportations that connecting each islands in Indonesia.
Located at Pancoran district this monument also called as Pancoran statue, The statue have 11 meters tall and made from 11 tons bronze, with 27 meters high arc shape concrete base. Designed by Edhi Sunarso, contructed by Keluarga Arca artists from Yogyakarta, and supervised by President Soekarno himself, the statue finished in two year (1964-1965). There is a rumor that President Soekarno must sold his car to covering the increased construction cost for this monument.
Sadly today this monument is buried under several layer of fly over toll roads, you can see it in the Photo Gallery.

Patung Pembebasan Irian Barat
(West Irian Liberation Statue)

  

This bronze statue commemorated the freedom of Irian Jaya (West Irian or now named as Papua) from Dutch occupation in 1963, symbolize by a man with broken chain that raising his hands expressing the freedom.
Located on Lapangan Banteng (Bull/wild ox Square) near Hotel Borobudur and Ministry of Finance building, this area formerly used for bus terminal and now for agriculture planting and exhibition place.

 
 
Patung Pahlawan a.k.a. Patung Pak Tani
(Hero Statue a.k.a. Farmer Statue)

  

The official name for this statue is Hero Statue (Patung Pahlawan), but because of the man shapes on this statue wearing a Caping (conical shape traditional farmer hat made from woven bamboo), so people called this statue as Farmer Statue (Patung Pak Tani). This statue commemorated the struggle for Independence by Indonesian people, symbolize by a man wearing Caping with a riffle on his shoulder, that taking a food from a plate that given by a women beside him. The story behind this statue was started when President Soekarno was attended to Moscow and impressed to the statues in that city, so The President of Russia was introduce him to the artist that made the statues, Matvei Manizer and his son Otto Manizer. President Soekarno invited them to Jakarta to built a statue that representing the spirit of freedom, this two artists was exploring the rural villages in Indonesia and found a legend from West Java that tell a story about a mother that accompany her son to go to war, the mother inspire her son to get strong spirit to win all wars, also always remember to his parent and his country. This bronze statue was built in Russia and brought to Indonesia by cargo ship, officially opened at 1963 by President Soekarno. On the plate on this monument is writen "Bangsa yang menghargai pahlawannya adalah bangsa yang besar" (The country that has citizen which giving respect for all of their heroes can be called as a great country).

Patung Pemuda Membangun
(Statue of Nation Development by the Youth)

  

This statue built to give appreciation for the young man and woman that contributing in the Indonesian development, symbolize by a strong young man holding a saucer with eternal flame to representing the spirit of developing that never die. The statue is made from steel-framed concrete covered with terrazzo layer, started to built at July 1971 by the team of Engineer, Artist and Architect (Biro IBA) with Imam Supardi as the team leader and Munir Pamuncak as implementation header, planed to opened at "Hari Sumpah Pemuda" (Youth Pledge Day) at Oktober 28, 1971, but the statue was not finished yet and officially opened March 1972. This statue is located at Senayan roundabout, the strategic place as the road point connection of Senayan as the gate of Central jakarta and the South of Jakarta area.
